The 8 signals we check when auditing your website

Every AIO Optimiser score is built from exactly 8 checks, run against a fresh fetch of your page, weighted out of 100. No AI judgement in the score itself — same page in, same score out, every time. Here's each one, what it checks, and why it's worth points.

Title tag (15 points)

Present, and ideally between 30 and 65 characters. Too short and it's vague; too long and it gets truncated everywhere it's shown, including by AI systems deciding whether your page is relevant before they even open it.

Meta description (15 points)

Present, ideally 50–160 characters. Increasingly one of the first things an AI answer engine reads to decide what your page is about — see our full post on why this matters.

H1 heading (10 points)

Exactly one. Zero means no clear topic signal; more than one confuses both search engines and AI systems about what the page's actual subject is.

H2 headings (10 points)

At least one. Subheadings break a page into extractable chunks — an AI system pulling out "the pricing section" or "the returns policy" is relying on structure like this to know where one topic ends and another begins.

Content depth (15 points)

Full points at 300+ words. Thin pages don't give an AI system enough material to extract real facts from confidently — it either skips you or, worse, fills the gaps with something less accurate.

Image alt text (15 points)

Percentage of images with real alt text. A page with no images scores full marks here — this is about coverage, not forcing images onto pages that don't need them.

Structured data / JSON-LD (10 points)

Present or not. This is the one most sites are genuinely missing — see our dedicated post on why it's the fastest win on this whole list.

Internal links (10 points)

Full points at 2 or more. Links between your own pages help both crawlers and AI systems understand how your site's topics relate to each other, not just that each page exists in isolation.
